SENIOR EYE EXAMS

Age: 65 years and older
Recommended Frequency: Every year, or more often if clinically indicated

As we age, our eyes become more susceptible to conditions such as cataracts, glaucoma, age related macular degeneration, diabetic eye disease, and other changes that can affect vision. Regular comprehensive eye exams allow these conditions to be detected early, often before symptoms develop.

At Vue Vision Centre, our comprehensive senior eye exams assess both your vision and your overall eye health using advanced diagnostic technology when clinically appropriate. Early detection and ongoing monitoring help protect your vision and maintain your quality of life.

Most routine eye examinations for patients 65 years of age and older are covered by OHIP. Additional testing may be recommended based on your eye health, medical history, or clinical findings. Our team will explain any recommended testing and answer any questions before proceeding.

If specialized care or referral to an ophthalmologist is required, we will coordinate your care to ensure you receive the highest standard of treatment.

Recommended Frequency: Every 1 to 2 years, or as recommended by your optometrist

PEDIATRIC EYE EXAMS

Age: Birth to 19 years
Recommended Frequency: First exam at 6 months, again at age 3, before starting school, then annually or as recommended by your optometrist.

Healthy vision plays an essential role in a child's learning, development, and everyday activities. Many childhood eye conditions develop without obvious symptoms, making regular comprehensive eye exams an important part of your child's health care.

At Vue Vision Centre, our pediatric eye exams evaluate vision, eye coordination, focusing ability, eye health, and overall visual development. Early detection of conditions such as lazy eye, crossed eyes, and the need for glasses allows treatment to begin when it is most effective.

Most routine eye examinations for children and teenagers are covered by OHIP. If additional testing is recommended, our team will explain the purpose of the testing and answer any questions before proceeding.

DIABETIC EYE EXAMS

Who: Patients with Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes
Recommended Frequency: Every year, or more often if clinically indicated

Diabetes can affect the small blood vessels in the retina, often without causing noticeable symptoms in the early stages. Regular diabetic eye exams are essential for detecting diabetic retinopathy and other diabetes related eye conditions before permanent vision loss occurs.

At Vue Vision Centre, our comprehensive diabetic eye examinations evaluate both your vision and retinal health using advanced diagnostic technology when clinically appropriate. Early detection allows us to monitor changes, recommend treatment when necessary, and help protect your long term vision.

Most routine diabetic eye examinations are covered by OHIP for eligible patients. If additional testing is recommended, our team will explain the purpose of the testing and answer any questions before proceeding.

If signs of diabetic eye disease are detected, we will work closely with your family physician, endocrinologist, or ophthalmologist to ensure you receive timely and appropriate care.

PLAQUENIL AND METHOTREXATE EYE EXAMS

Who: Patients taking Plaquenil or Methotrexate
Recommended Frequency: Baseline examination and ongoing monitoring as recommended by your optometrist or prescribing physician

Certain medications, including Plaquenil and Methotrexate, can increase the risk of changes to the retina and other parts of the eye. Regular eye examinations help detect these changes early, often before you notice any changes in your vision.

At Vue Vision Centre, we provide comprehensive medication monitoring using advanced diagnostic technology when clinically appropriate. Your examination may include a detailed retinal evaluation, OCT retinal imaging, visual field testing, and other specialized testing to help identify early signs of medication related eye changes.

Most routine examinations may be covered by OHIP when eligibility requirements are met. Additional testing may be recommended depending on your medication, dosage, length of treatment, and clinical findings. Our team will explain all recommended testing before proceeding.

If any changes are detected, we will communicate with your prescribing physician and coordinate any additional care to help protect your vision.

INSURANCE AND EXAM COVERAGE

DIRECT BILLING AVAILABLE FOR MOST MAJOR INSURANCE PLANS

Eye exam coverage depends on your age, medical history, and eligibility under OHIP or your private insurance plan. Our team is happy to help you understand your coverage before your appointment.

We also offer direct billing for many major insurance providers whenever possible. If direct billing is not available for your plan, we will provide the documentation needed to help you submit your claim for reimbursement.

If your insurance company was not in the list above you will have to contact them to facilitate your reimbursement. To facilitate your re-imbursement, kindly bring any forms to your appointment or when you pick up your glasses or contact lenses.

If you feel that you may be covered by any of the groups listed above, you must let us know PRIOR to coming in for your appointment. Some of the groups require authorization to claim eligibility and this may take several days to weeks to obtain the appropriate documentation.

EYE EXAM FEES

Eye exam fees vary depending on the type of examination and any additional testing required. Our fees follow the guidelines established by the College of Optometrists of Ontario. If you have questions about fees or insurance coverage, our team will be happy to assist you before your appointment.
